Mackinac Island – May 2012 Visit – Day 4

I’m having Lilac Festival withdrawal. It’s going on right now, but we’re not there! Sad! I’m sure all the visitors and island residents alike are having a blast. Meanwhile, we’ll take a look back at the final day of our May visit to the island.

In case you missed the beginning of this short series, here are some links: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3.

The final day on the island is always bittersweet. We start off with all the time in the world (or so it seems!) and then all of a sudden it’s time to leave and we’re left wondering how it passed so quickly. We like to get up early and head out to enjoy the island as it wakes up. Well, who are we kidding, we watch the island wake up every morning. But the final day is extra special.

Early morning on Market Street – our favorite street at our favorite time of day – with working horses in the background. I took this shot while we were walking to breakfast.

I mentioned on one of the earlier days in our recap, the dray drivers probably think we’re stalking them because of how many pictures of horses we take. I’ve never ridden a horse, but I’m mesmerized by them. I can never have enough pictures of Mackinac Island horses!

Morning Deliveries

Dray

Carpet Delivery

These beauties were hauling rolls of carpeting.

I got a chance to ask their name. Meet Huey and Louie!

Hauling mattresses!

Luggage heading to the ferry

This wasn’t our luggage, but we were heading to the same place, the ferry to head home. 😦

Boarding the home-bound ferry

We had a nice, quiet, uneventful drive home and are looking forward to our next visit! Thanks so much for following along with our May visit series. Until our next trip, we hope to feature some of our favorite island things-to-do. Stay tuned!

Unless otherwise indicated, all photos are courtesy of my amazing husband, the late Jackson Pearson (1961-2019) May he rest in eternal peace ❤

Still the cold, slow season there when you went? Funny how that can last all the way up until July sometimes. Still you got some fantastic pictures of empty streets, something impossible to find on Mack Isle in the height of summer.

  2. Slow, yes. Cold, no! We had beautiful weather (this was the first weekend in May). 65-70 during the day. The coats in the pictures were necessary only because it was about 6:30 a.m. 🙂 We love the quiet streets. We can almost find them looking like this mid-summer if we’re out early enough!

We visited the island twice when we lived in Michigan and would love to come again this summer if we can. Such a beautiful place… thanks for the preview!

  4. Huffygirl says:

do you stay up there for the whole summer Elizabeth? We usually go up for a conference the end of July and I always hate to leave. When I’m there I think I would love to be there for the whole summer, but if I really was, I wonder if it would be too much. There are so many other beautiful places in Michigan I like to visit as well.

  5. No, we don’t stay all summer, we just visit a few times per year. We actually prefer spring and (especially) fall to summer, but some day we’re still hoping to live there at least part time if not full!

Talk to us!
