The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail caterpillar living on our Tulip Poplar tree is another week older! This is the biggest one I’ve ever seen and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a successful cocoon coming up soon. (If you’d like to catch up with previous episodes, they can be found here.) In the meantime, here’s a recap of this week’s progress.
The photos in this initial sequence are my favorites. Our timing was good — mid-meal! We rarely have the opportunity to see their tongues or their feet and in these pictures we were able to capture both.
These next few days’ pictures are a bit mundane by comparison, but I still love looking at their markings and the changes over time. The pictures below cover (in order) four days.
We hope you’ll stop back to follow his progress. We’re also hoping to find some newly-laid eggs as the summer goes on. We’ll post again in a few days!
