Vicki Myron (with Bret Witter) – Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

DeweyWhen I spotted Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World a few years back, I stood right there in the bookstore and read the first chapter and the last chapter. You see, I have a hard time with animal books (movies, TV shows, etc. etc. etc.) because as inspirational as they usually are, the animal typically dies. And it near kills me! So usually I just skip them.

But that day in the bookstore, I made it through the first chapter and the last, and figured I was good to go. I wasn’t, of course. I cried like a baby, but it was more like 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through the book. By the end I wasn’t crying anymore. And, regardless, the tears were worth it. I’m so very happy I read this book and got to know this cat.

Dewey Readmore Books is the full name of the wonderful cat at the center of this book, and Vicki Myron is the librarian who helped him. In turn, he helped many others in the small town of Spencer, Iowa. For nineteen years he lived at the Spencer Public Library, entertaining the visitors and, truly, touching the world. If you’re an animal lover, don’t miss it.
