Caterpillar Corner – Episode 2

We’re continuing to keep tabs on our Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly caterpillars. If you missed part 1, it can be found here. These caterpillars grow very quickly, and within a day or two we could already see a change.

Although the size difference is very noticeable when comparing to the initial pictures, another interesting change is the color. These caterpillars start off looking rather like bird droppings (brown and white) but they will eventually turn green to match the leaves of the tree. They’ve already started this color change.
