The Bluebird Diaries – Vol. 2 No. 1

Well, that didn’t take long! After guiding their babies successfully from their nest box only a few short weeks ago, our bluebirds have returned to begin their second round of breeding.

If you missed round one, we documented the whole process day-by-day here. This time we won’t do a daily post, but we’ll keep you updated on their progress throughout the entire nesting process. We hope you’ll follow along!

The bluebirds began re-visiting their nest box almost as soon as their babies left. We removed the old nesting material promptly so they’d have a clean slate. Sometimes bluebirds can get to work on another nest within days of the babies leaving. But ours didn’t go quite that fast. It seemed they were just dropping in to see how things were at the homestead. They never stayed long, just a few minutes here and there, but we knew they would eventually be back. Earlier this week we noticed them there more than usual one day, and sure enough the next day they got to work on a new nest!

As usual the female did all the work while the male stood guard. Occasionally he’d sing for her musical entertainment. 🙂

Later in the day when we had a chance to have a look, we were amazed at the progress!

We’ll be back with another update as progress continues! Thanks for following along!
