They’re still here! The babies are old enough to leave the nest as of yesterday but to me they seem a little bit young for their age. This is probably because our bluebirds nested very early this year, almost a full month earlier than we’ve ever had them in the past. I have a feeling the babies will be around for at least two or three more days. Sometime between now and then we’ll begin seeing their little faces sticking out of the hole, starting to investigate the real world. Until then, we’ve got plenty of pictures of the feeding process. You will be able to notice, as the babies get bigger, their meals get bigger! In this first set of pictures, you might be able to see the mom has two bugs in her mouth at the same time, a spider, and a green-ish caterpillar. In this sequence, she was on the roof of the house, flew off and around, then into the hole.
(I’m mesmerized by her little feet!)
In the nest shots, she’s got a BIG spider!
This next group is full of various coming and going pictures of both parents.
Finally, you may remember yesterday our male took a nice big bath! Later, the female followed suit!
We’ll be back tomorrow! Thanks for following along!
