The Bluebird Diaries – Day 53 (May 12, 2012)

Yesterday and especially today we can really hear the babies chirping anytime the parents approach the nest box. We expect to start seeing their little heads poking out of the hole within the next few days as they start to get curious about leaving the box!

We got some great shots of the dad taking a big bath today, followed by some feeding pictures and of course the day wouldn’t be complete without some fecal sacs. 🙂 Enjoy and we’ll be back tomorrow!

The babies are big enough now to raise up and meet the parents for food, so this is a typical sight … just a parent’s butt hanging out of the hole. Soon they won’t even need to enter the nest box to feed, they will just sit at the hole and the babies will come up to get it.

This is my favorite feeding picture. It’s as if she’s hanging there in thin air with no way to possibly make it to the box. She did, of course!

If you don’t find the fecal sacs as interesting as we do, you will want to stop here. For some reason we find the entire process fascinating!

Thanks for following along!

These pictures are amazing!!! we have a lot of bluebirds around our house and they never cease to bring me joy, but I’ve never been able to capture a good photo of them. And I don’t think they’ve had babies in any of our boxes. What a wonderful thing for you to be able to witness!
