Swallow Tales – Part 2

Before our barn swallows begin building any nests, they hang around here for awhile deciding if they like it. They sleep in potential nesting locations, and we’ve often wondered if they’re testing things out to decide whether their choice is safe and free of evening predators.

Here’s Zel bedding down for the night back in 2010. Even though these are older pictures, they’ve been here overnight for several days now. We just haven’t had a chance to get any current pictures!

This is ultimately where they will build their mud nest! The staining on the wood around the bird is from previous years.

The white spots on Zel’s blue wings are not typical. We like them because they help us know it’s him!

We’ll be back in a few days with more information! Hope you’ll join us!
