The Bluebird Diaries – Day 41 (April 30, 2012)

And then there were five! The final egg hatched sometime overnight because when we looked this morning there were five babies!

They’re just a little bit fuzzier than yesterday!

There’s lots of activity at the nestbox with the parents coming and going every few minutes with a new meal. You may also notice how clean the nest looks. The parents remove the babies’ feces and dispose of it some distance away from the nest box. We’re hoping to catch a picture of this at some point because it’s fascinating.

Meantime, we did get this picture of the dad with a nice spider treat for his babies!

And here he is taking it toward the box.

It’s warming up nicely and forecast to continue to get even warmer as the week goes on. This is great news for food availability!

See you tomorrow!
