The Bluebird Diaries – Day 37 (April 26, 2012)

First I need to say I can’t believe it’s day 37 already! On one hand it feels like the bluebirds just arrived yesterday but on the other hand we’re going a little bit nuts waiting for the eggs to begin hatching!

We had such a feeling today about these eggs. We thought sure they were hatching. We were wrong. That is not unusual for us! We always think we “have a feeling”. It’s usually just wishful thinking!

I thought today I’d share some pictures of what happens around here when it’s not breeding season. The bluebirds tend to stay local for the entire autumn after they are born and occasionally through the winter too. They are big bathers, and at times we have a dozen or more here at once (usually two full families). Baby bluebirds hang with their parents for a long time, sometimes a full year or more. And they pay us many visits!

These pictures were all taken last fall. Enjoy!
