Things were a lot different around here today. Was it the rain? Maybe! Or is it because babies are on their way? We have a hunch ……
The male bluebird is always around, every day, but today he seemed even more present. He also seemed more protective of the nest box than usual when we were out in the yard. And the female was out and about all day long, hunting bugs, looking pretty, preening her feathers, enjoying the rain, waiting for her hubby to bring her some dessert. We saw them both more than usual.
(It was probably the rain. Rain always brings birds. But we’re pretending it’s the babies and we’re getting excited just the same!!)
We checked the nest box twice for pipping, but all was quiet. “Pipping” is when the babies start breaking through the eggs. When they’ve cracked the shell, they’ve “pipped.”
We’re on baby bluebird watch, and we’ll let you know as soon as we see any action!
