Today was even quieter than yesterday on the house sparrow front. And yes, that’s another sigh of relief you’re hearing! We spotted only two or three all day long, and none were anywhere near the nest box.
Our gal laid her fourth egg relatively late today, sometime between noon and 1:30, with 12:30 being our best guess.
I realized even though I’ve been faithful with the egg pictures, I haven’t been showing you the actual birds lately! Here’s the female after a brief visit into her nest box this morning:
And here’s the male, bringing his wife some lunch. She was in the box when this picture was taken, and he took the bug in to her just a few seconds later.
We’re getting to the end of the egg-laying cycle, she should only lay one or two more. Then, once we see whether she starts incubating immediately we’ll start playing the calendar game, trying to predict when they’ll hatch. But I shouldn’t get ahead of myself here. Heck, a few short days ago I was wondering whether we’d have any eggs at all thanks to our neighborhood predators. One day at a time!
Thanks for following along. We’ll be back tomorrow!
