No egg today! We really thought today would be the day, based on the size of the nest and especially their behavior yesterday. That is, until we saw the size of the nest and their behavior today! As each day passes the male becomes a little bit more protective of the female, following her around more instead of just waiting around as she comes and goes with nesting material. They are also growing more amorous as each day passes. And we’ll leave it at that so as to respect their privacy. 🙂
Sheldon was in fine feather today, shiny blue in the bright sunshine!
Whatcha doin’ in there?
The following collection of pictures show the continued nest building activity this morning. They arrived early today (6:45 a.m. instead of 7:00) and got right to work!
Inevitably, the female brings more than she can fit in the hole. We’ll have to take a picture of the ground around the house. Sometimes there’s more on the ground than there is in the nest. A few days ago we watched a robin hanging around to pick up the fallen scrap to use for her nest!
This final picture shows a close-up of the nest. Much thicker today with a better-defined well for the eggs. I think tomorrow is the day. We’ll see!
